cottages.com and its sister sites are a group of self-catering holiday accommodations. During my time there, I worked on iterating the development of the search components design and functions to be used across all sites.
The backend system was undergoing an overhaul in how properties were stored and searched, moving to a Geolocation approach, rather than a regional hierarchy structure for individual properties and it’s inherent downfalls.
The search is core to the customers journey, it touches many points of the site and helps filter results down to a manageable number of properties to view. The following is a mix of ideas along the way to the final designs.
